MARGHERITA RASO
Untitled
#Retrofuture
Margherita Raso joins the RETROFUTURE section, the collection of works by young Italian artists growing organically with time.
The artist presents Untitled (2016), a work that enters the space as a painting and a sculpture at the same time. Made with a Jacquard loom, the image is derived from a series of organic remains collected and observed through the lens of a microscope, creating different scales and dimensions.
MARGHERITA RASO (Lecco, 1991) lives and works between Milan and New York. In 2014 she co-founded the artist-run space Armada in Milan. Her practice is informed by the interest in the “skin” of objects and in the different modes of perception and understanding of the work. Through the use of Jacquard-weaved textiles, the artist investigates the role and the meaning of texture. By creating microscopic reliefs of different scales and dimensions, namely woven drawings, her intent is to access a space simultaneously with a painting and a sculpture while tearing them both from their immobility. Group and solo exhibitions include: Margherita Raso, curated by Paola Nicolin, Abbazia di Lucedio, Vercelli (2021); Perfectly round, as we left them, with Nevine Mahmoud and Derek MF Di Fabio, curated by Eva Fabbris, Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro, Milan (2021). Her recent solo exhibitions include: Canal, Bible, New York (2018); Piercing, Fanta-MLN, Milan (2017). Her works have been included in group exhibitons at: Fanta-MLN, Milan (2020); WPN-NYC, New York (2019); WallRiss, Fribourg (2019); MAMbo, Bologna (2018); Armada, Milan (2016).
