Giulia Cenci joins the RETROFUTURE section, the collection of works by young Italian artists which grows organically with time.
Giulia Cenci presents the sculpture Figura che divora se stessa (2021). In her work, the artist combines natural and synthetic elements taken from everyday life to create hybrid figures, resulting from processes of transformation that reflect on the relationships between the technological, human, animal and plant worlds.
GIULIA CENCI (Cortona, 1988) graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, IT (2007-2012), received a Master of Fine Arts at St. Joost Academy, Den Bosch-Breda, NL (2013-2015) and she took part in deAteliers residency, Amsterdam, NL (2015-2017). The artist lives and work between Amsterdam and Tuscany. Her solo exhibitions include: backland, Galeria Fons Welters, Amsterdam; tallone di Ferro, Museo Novecento, Florence; Giulia Cenci, MUDAM, Luxembourg; fango, SpazioA, Pistoia; Da lontano era un’isola, Kunst Merano Arte, Merano; ground-ground, SpazioA, Pistoia; a traves, Carreras Mugica (Hall), Bilbao; Mai, Tile Project Space, Milan. His work is currently on display in the exhibition Il latte dei sogni, curated by Cecilia Alemani, 59. International Art Exhibition, La Biennale di Venezia. Recent group exhibitions include: Metabolic rift, Karftwerk Berlin, Berlin Atonal, Berlin; Panorama, Procida; Nulla è perduto, GAMeC, Bergamo; Prima che il gallo canti. Works from Sandretto Re Rebaudengo Collection, Palazzo Re Rabaudengo, Guarene; METAMORPHOSIS, Villa Olmo, Como; Shapeshifters, Konstmuseum, Malmo; 15th Lyon Biennale / Jeune creation internationale, Villeurbanne/Rhone-Alpes. She was the winner of the Baloise Art Prize at Art Basel 2019 and a finalist for the MAXXI BVLGARI PRIZE 2020.
