This conversation addresses activism, public space and historical memory through the work of the association Tezeta and the Rete Yekatit 12-19 Febbraio.

YODIT ESTIFANOS AFEWERKI was born in 1988 in Milan to Eritrean parents. A graduate in Linguistics and Cultural Mediation and an expert in migration and development, she is committed to the struggle for the rights of migrants and refugees. She is a member of the Tezeta association, which aims to promote knowledge and rediscovery of the ties between Eritrea and Italy through the narration of the historical-political interweaving between Italian colonialism and the contemporary migration phenomenon, by means of urban trekking practices within the quartiere africano of Rome. Since 2022 Tezeta has been part of the Rete Yekatit 12-19 Febbraio and supports its activities. The network aims to contribute to a process of critical and collective reworking of the role of colonialism in the history and present of Italy, with the objective of offering increasingly accurate tools to read the reality in which we live, its ties to the recent history of Italy and its state, national and identity construction.

DAVIDE VALERI is an Italian-Ethiopian sociologist. He focuses on the sociology of migration, postcolonial studies and discriminatory phenomena, with particular attention to the social role of sport. He collaborates with universities, national and international institutions and third sector entities, contributing to research and development of strategies and initiatives aimed at preventing, monitoring and countering discrimination.
