Maria Violenza was born in Palermo and embodies the vengeance of heretics.

She translates suffering into punk and synthetic melodies, an underground journey in the opposite direction from Medina to Mecca. Maria Violenza is a modern exorcism using drum machines, synths, loopers and Arabic folk riffs.

The album Scirroco sings – in French, English, Italian and Sicilian dialect, – stories of Palermo’s hardships and sweat mixed with spices.

Her punk arrangements fuse the tenderness of her accent with punchy synthesiser rhythms, while also using the sounds of rap, traditional music and hits in her musical practice.
