Akïi is a musician based in Berlin where she has developed a focus on technology and sound design, skilfully mixing genres such as bass, breakbeat, deconstructed club and experimental music. The result is the creation of contrasting and expressive tracks and sounds that engage the listener.

She presented her sound world with the release of an EP entitled We Are Not Angels We Have a Body on 7666k. Besides sound art projects and collaborations in video art and film, Akïi has played as a DJ in several clubs between Rome and Berlin: Cieloterra and Angelo Mai in Rome, Zur Klappe, ACUD and Panke in Berlin. In the last year, her focus has shifted to vocal experimentation and the narrative process built around the expression of the voice, composing an album and live sets of experimental music.

Qursarina, 11.30 pm – 12.30 am

Qursarina’s musical journey began in 2017, in the underground scene of Almaty in Kazakhstan. She moved to Rome in 2021 and became part of the underground clubbing scene, playing for Klang, Merende, Resistance is Techno, NTS X DIESEL, Nero and many other events. Qursarina’s sets blend elements of break, breakbeat, acid and techno. What sets her apart is “the refusal to be pigeonholed into one genre. I am a chameleon, a DJ with the ability to adapt and evolve. I believe in the power of music to transcend boundaries and genres”.

Mary Gehnyei, 12.30 am – 1.30 am

Mary Gehnyei was born in Rome with Liberian origins. She began her musical adventure as a vocalist in some of the best clubs in Italy, while she started collecting and playing vinyls to share sounds with other people. With an interesting and eclectic musical background, she brings together influences from Hip Hop to Detroit Techno.

She has performed warm ups to DJs such as Andrew Weatherall and K-Hand who has been an important reference figure for her.

Her music and presence break stereotypes and show how diversity is an resource to be celebrated. Her mission is to unite energy and electronic sounds with her cultural roots through music.

I invited Nicola Pecoraro, artist and creator of my avatar, to curate this special episode.
