WIN A NEW CAR
#In-Design
WIN A NEW CAR is the first solo show in an Italian institution by VIER5. The Parisian design studio founded by Marco Fiedler and Achim Reichert will occupy the IN-DESIGN section, exhibiting an archive of images, visual statements and projects tracing their production from 2002 to the present.
From publications and artist’s books to experimental sound and visual projects, from the graphics for CAC Brétigny, Brétigny-sur-Orge, to the visual identity for documenta 12 (2007) and documenta 14 in Athens and Kassel (2017), VIER5’s practice is based on a classical notion of what design is, which they define as the possibility to create new avant-garde proposals within the field of visual communication. Working closely with words, signs, and the way these may be perceived, the studio aims “to prevent any visual ‘empty phrases’, and to replace them with individual, creative statements”, which are developed specifically for the context they address and the medium they utilize. This research process often materializes in the design and application of cutting-edge typographies which sometimes have a carefree appearance.
Fiedler and Reichert launched an independent fashion, photography, graphic design and art periodical FAIRY TALE MAGAZINE (FT) in 2003, and since 2007 they run their own fashion label. A number of recent productions as well as a new limited edition book—published especially for this “retrospective”—will be introduced in the museum’s spaces.
