Lab for New Imaginations III

The Department for Preventive Education of MACRO launches the second edition of the educational programme Lab for New Imaginations.
A series of in-person meetings will be distributed across two weeks, targeting emerging visual and sound artists, curators, designers, researchers and writers based in Italy.
The programme is designed to provide opportunities for emerging practitioners from different disciplinary backgrounds. It offers a chance to collaborate in the generation of new ideas, contents and projects by encouraging self-organization processes aimed at the realization of a collective editorial output.
Participants are offered a series of meetings with museum staff and some of the artists involved in the exhibition programme they will be introduced to curators, artists and editorial projects taking place in and around Rome.
The programme provides an experimental laboratory to ask questions and develop ideas that challenge or expand on existing models of curatorial, artistic and editorial practice.
There will be 20 hours of meetings with those who make up the team of the MACRO: Artistic Director: Luca Lo Pinto; Curatorial Assistant and Assistant to the Artistic Director: Eloisa Magiera; Fundraiser, Lison D’Houwt; Curatorial and Editorial Office: Chiara C. Siravo, Matteo Binci, Vasco Forconi; Exhibition Production, Event and Logistic Coordinators: Sara Cattaneo, Lorena Stamo, Giulia Caruso, Anna Mostardi, Marco Lo Giudice; Digital and Communication Department: Maddalena Bonicelli, Elena Fortunati, Andrea Pergola, Olivia Lynk, Nicoletta Graziano. The programme is organized by Irene Angenica, Public Relations and Educational Activities Coordinator.
During the two weeks of the workshop, participants will be able to access the MACRO’s spaces (classrooms, meeting room and library) in order to work in groups throughout the museum’s opening hours.
Following the two-weeks workshop, 5 virtual tutoring meetings on the collective project will be scheduled with the various departments of the museum.
The Lab for New Imaginations will take place from 4 September to 17 September 2023 with the presentation of the collective editorial project by December 2023.
To participate, you must send your CV, portfolio and the compilated form to edu@museomacro.it, with the subject line APPLICATION FOR NEW IMAGINATION 3, by 8 pm on 11 June 2023. Participants will be personally selected by the museum staff and will be communicated in early July. Good knowledge of Italian and English and willingness to be present in Rome for the entire duration of the workshop is required. If I am a writer/researcher/theorist/curator should I still submit a portfolio?
Yes.
If the Lab weeks coincide with an exam/work in attendance can I still participate?
If it is a commitment that does not take more than one day yes.
Is there an age limit to participate?
No, you can participate at any age, however, only emerging profiles will be selected.
Should I send the CV in Italian or English?
You can send it in the language you prefer, but good oral and written comprehension of both is required.

What times will the Lab week meetings be held?
Monday through Friday from 10.30 am to 6.30 p.m. However, availability is also required for any events, evening meetings and weekend appointments. A detailed schedule will be shared a week before the programme begins.
